Education apps that keep working offline

283 appsHand-picked from Education

"Offline" is one of the least reliable words on an app listing. It can mean the app caches what you last opened, or that it downloads a full dataset in advance, or that it queues your changes and syncs them later — or it can mean the developer tested it on a plane once and the screen did not crash. The education apps collected here are the ones where offline behaviour is a designed feature rather than a side effect, and where we can point at what specifically survives the connection dropping.

The distinction matters most at the moment you cannot fix it. An app that needs a handshake to unlock content you already downloaded is fine on your sofa and useless on a train, in a basement, or in a country where your roaming did not activate. Before you rely on one, test it the honest way: put the device in airplane mode and try to do the thing you will actually need to do. If it works, you know. If it shows a spinner, better to find out now.

Everything below is drawn from the same catalogue as the rest of the site, which means the same rules apply. The official store link comes first where one exists, and where we host a build instead, the listing carries its SHA-256 hash and the signing certificate fingerprint. That is worth more here than usual: people reach for sideloaded education apps precisely when they are about to lose the connection they would need to verify anything.

What puts an app on this page

  1. 01

Core function survives the connection dropping

Not just a cached screen — the thing the app is for still works. Reading, editing, navigating, or recording continues with the radio off, and the app says so plainly rather than failing halfway through.

  2. 02

Data is on the device before you need it

Whatever the app needs offline is downloaded deliberately and visibly, with a size shown up front. An app that silently caches whatever you happened to open last is not the same thing as one that lets you download a region, a library, or a workspace on purpose.

  3. 03

    Changes queue instead of vanishing

Edits made offline are held locally and synced when the connection returns, with a visible state for anything pending. The failure we screen for is the app that accepts input, loses it on reconnect, and never tells you.

One more thing

Offline support is a claim like any other on a listing, and we treat it the same way we treat provenance: it should be checkable rather than asserted. If an app here does not behave the way this page describes, that is a bug in the listing and worth reporting.
